How much does a book cost?
Every book is $24.99, with no subscription. Interactive Fiction includes all 26 chapters with no charge per turn. Describe your idea, sign in or create a free account, and review a free opening preview before paying. Fiction and nonfiction also include a proposed outline; Interactive Fiction previews only Chapter I.
How long does it take to generate a book?
Automatically written fiction and nonfiction typically take 30–60 minutes, with longer waits possible when demand is high or a chapter needs a retry. Interactive Fiction continues one chapter at a time after you send your direction, then waits for you again. You can return to your library to read completed chapters. We send an email when the full book is complete.
What types of books can I create?
You can create fiction, nonfiction, and Interactive Fiction, including novels, memoirs, how-to guides, history books, and children's stories. Choose Interactive Fiction to shape the story with your own directions after each chapter.
How do I continue my interactive story?
Open the story from your library, then read the latest completed chapter. Use “What should happen next?” on that chapter or the book page to send your direction, and choose “Write next chapter.” The next chapter takes time to generate, then the story pauses for you again. If you see “Waiting for your direction,” the story is ready for your next move. You can leave and return later; it ends after Chapter XXVI.
Can I edit my book after it's generated?
You can revise your idea and regenerate the free preview before ordering. After purchase, Interactive Fiction lets you direct what happens next before each new chapter; fiction and nonfiction continue automatically. In Interactive Fiction, use Edit chapter on the book page to change the latest chapter while the story is paused or complete, then Save chapter. Saved edits update your online book and are used when writing the next chapter. For other edits, download the completed plain-text manuscript and use your preferred writing tool. Edits to the download do not update your online book.

You can read your book directly on the website using our built-in reader, or download it as a file from your book's page.
